Yellow House

8 x 6 inches - oil on gessoboard - In this spring scene, yellow is the focus. It's always hard to decide what details to leave out and what to add.

Yellow Hibiscus

5 x 7 inches - oil on gessoboard - A series on Hawaii would not be complete without a painting of hibiscus. We even saw hibiscus hedges.

Yellow Orchid

7 x 5 inches - oil on gessoboard - Here is a little orchid we found growing beside a parking lot in Hawaii. Painting this reminded me of a quote that went something like "It takes two to paint: one to paint and the other to smack the painter on the head when it is time to stop." - not sure where this comes from.

Queen Emma Lily

7 x 5 inches - oil on gessoboard - We came across this beautiful plant in front of the Hulihe'e Palace in Hawaii. Although it was not native, it was the favourite of Queen Emma.

Surfer Girl

5 x 7 inches - oil on gessoboard - There are lots of surfers in Hawaii. Some of them seem to spend a long time watching the waves from shore.  I am not sure whether they are nervous about jumping in or they are waiting for the best waves.
