Lane by the Avon River

6 x 6 inches - oil on gessoboard - There is a great little walk we often take from our B&B to go to for dinner or to the theatre in Stratford. It is a quiet lane that passes along the river. I have been playing with limited palettes and here is one of my efforts.

House Behind the Hedge

5 x 7 inches - oil on gessoboard - found on a street in Stratford, this little house is neatly tucked behind a hedge that protects it from the sounds of the street.

5 x 7 inches - oil on gessoboard - While staying in Stratford, I looked up and caught this scene.  I liked the shapes that the old roof created against the sky.

Variety

6 x 8 inches - oil on gessoboard - Here is a little variety store that was across the street from our B&B in Stratford. I was attracted to the contrasts and colours that happen in the dark.

Avon Shore

6 x 8 inches - oil on gessoboard - While visiting Stratford, Ontario to attend the Stratford Festival we had great walks along the river.

Sitting on the Bank Steps

10 x 8 inches - oil on gessoboard - I have passed this bank on the corner for many years and always wanted to paint a scene with it.  I like the way the sun casts shadows on the door.

Store on the Corner

6 x 8 inches - oil on hardboard - this is an unusual store on the corner in Stratford and when the light shines on it in the morning it stands out from the other buildings.

Old York Street Kitchen

8 x 10 inches - oil on gessoboard - In Stratford, there used to be a lunch counter on York Street and while you could get a table inside if you were lucky, it was better to take a sandwich at the window and eat it in the park across the street. The business has moved to another location in the town but the building is still there and posed some challenges to paint.  I was trying to get the look of old brick without having to paint every brick.

House Across the Road

8 x 10 inches - Oil on Gessoboard - Every morning it struck me the way the light hit the house across from our B and B when we were staying in Stratford. When I got home, I had to paint it.

Tower in the Shakespeare Garden

6 x 8 inches, oil on hardboard - Every year we spend a number of very enjoyable days in Stratford Ontario, pigging out on live theatre and at the wonderful restaurants in town.  The theatre there is so much better than it is in Toronto, we no longer bother with the big city. This is a scene from one of the interesting gardens in Stratford.
