On the Road from Marrakesh

8 x 10 inches - oil on linen board - this is the first in a series I am doing on a trip we made to Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. This one is a composite from photos that I took and imaginings from a trip up the mountain from Marrakesh.

View Along the Coast

8 x 10 inches - oil on linen board  You wouldn't think that Hawaii has places where you don't always encounter people but it does - quiet and beautiful.

Beach Under the Trees

8 x 10 inches - oil on linen board - Sorry I have not posted for a while. I have been working on a couple of large paintings. There are a few remaining paintings to post from my Hawaii series and I also have a series that I am working on about cats waiting by doors.

Under the Trees

8 x 10 inches - oil on linen board - I have been working on a series of paintings about Hawaii, mostly Kauai on 8 x 10 inch boards. Hawaii, because it is one of the most beautiful and interesting places I have seen. On three trips, we fell in love with the place and hope to go back some day. 8 x 10 inch boards because I find that framing is often very expensive. Using a standard size like this reduces the cost. Often framing gets assigned a greater value than the painting itself. I try not to take offense from that.

Hawaiian Forest

8 x 10 inches - oil on linen board - Kauai gets a lot of rain and much of it falls on the interior and then flows to the sea via waterfalls and streams. Only the most hardy venture into the forest. Large Rock in the Water

9 x 12 inches - oil on linen board - The darks in this one sunk a bit so I varnished it. I don't always do this.

Rocky Inlet

9 x 12 inches - oil on linen panel - In Nova Scotia, the coast is not straight or even curved. It has many inlets and channels where the tide and waves whoosh in and out.

Through to the Beach

8 x 10 inches - oil on linen board - Here is a beach in Hawaii. You approach it through trees that cause interesting patterns of dappled light.

Wave on the Rocks

9 x 12 inches - oil on linen board - Waves are infinitely variable and interesting to paint.

10 x 8 inches - oil on linen panel - This is a sweet dog, very young and full of energy.

Returning to the Dock

9 x 12 inches - oil on linen panel - While it might be slower and, if the wind is in the wrong direction, tricky, sail is better. You don't scare the birds and you can hear the wind in the grass.
