Waterfall in Hawaii

Nene

16 x 20 inches - oil on canvas board - The story about this bird is interesting especially for Canadians like me. Apparently a long time ago, Canadian Geese got off course and landed in Hawaii. Over many generations they evolbed into the current Nene.

 

Hellebore

 

16 x 20 inches - oil on canvas board - This is sometimes called a Christmas rose because that is when it blooms in warmer places than where we are. The leaves stick around through most of the year though.

Japanese Iris

Autumn on the River

16 x 20 inches - oil on hardboard - Here is a larger work that I recently completed. Because I have been disenchanted with stretched canvas, I made my own board for this one.  I sealed the board first with coats of shellac on both sides, then several coats of gesso on the painted side. This extra work makes less sense for the small boards but, I think I like this approach for larger work. Once the work is displayed or sold, I can add a support or frame to the back.

John's Boat
